Gender & Sexuality Affirming Therapy

Our gender identities are an important piece of who we are.  Sometimes we discover our genders suddenly, other times gradually, and still other times we try to avoid thinking about our genders because it is uncomfortable.  If you’re reading this, you may be wanting to explore your gender identity (or identities) and how it is impacting your life.  Whatever your transition plans, including not transitioning, I am here to meet you where you are and help you achieve your goals.

I write letters for medical transitions as well as safe passage documents if traveling out of state or abroad.  All clients requesting medical transition letters will meet with me for a minimum of 1-3 sessions to determine ability to understand and consent to the procedure(s) and any associated risks, appropriate aftercare plans, and medical necessity.

Our sexual identities can be experienced in a variety of ways, from fairly fixed to fluid, and even evolving over time.  Sometimes our sexual identities are impacted by other identities, such as gender, or life experiences we have had.  Whether you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, queer, or questioning, this is a place to explore and further understand your sexual identities. In a space free of outside pressure to label yourself, you can find the language which fits you best and we will create room to accept and claim your identities and feel empowered.

Sometimes finally figuring out who you are has a significant impact on your partner and your family.  Your relationships may change in a variety of ways and with these changes come growing pains.  I offer both individual and relationship therapy (aka couples therapy) if you and your partner are navigating transition.  If you are seeking help with supporting a loved one through their coming out or gender transition, we can work through feelings of confusion and fear, and I will provide resources to help you find your footing again.

By the way, you may already know and embrace your gender and sexual identities.  They may not be the reason you are considering therapy at all.  Please rest assured that if you are seeking someone who understands your identities so you feel safe opening up, but don’t want to focus on them as an area of concern, we won’t.
